Most of the liquid crystal display components used in the pen-segment digital display are TN-type or HTN-type LCD liquid crystal screens.

The basic structural principle of the TN/HTN type liquid crystal revealing part is: photoetch the glass coated with the ITO transparent conductive layer with a certain transparent electric plate pattern, and clamp the front and rear glass substrates with the transparent conductive electrode pattern. The upper layer of the liquid crystal material of the nematic LCD liquid crystal screen with positive dielectric anisotropy is tightly sealed around it to form a flat liquid crystal box with a thickness of only a few microns.


The exposed part of the LCD liquid crystal screen is a common liquid crystal, and the LCD display is not visible. Common wrist watches, digital instruments, electronic clocks and most of the liquid crystal display components used in calculators are TN/HTN type LCD screen components. Because of this, this component should be the LCD liquid crystal display device that many people are well aware of.

The twisted nematic phase (TN) is revealed because a layer of alignment film is coated on the inside and outside of the glass of the LCD liquid crystal screen, and orientation treatment is performed, and the LCD liquid crystal molecules are arranged in parallel along the surface of the glass in the box. However, because the orientations of the inner and outer alignment layers of the two pieces of glass are perpendicular to each other, the LCD liquid crystal molecules are twisted at 90° between the two pieces of glass, which is the origin of the name of the twisted nematic liquid crystal display part.
