High brightness programmable 14-segment display

It is an extension of the more common seven-segment display, with an additional four diagonal segments and two vertical segments that intersect the middle horizontal segment, forming a cross. Seven-segment displays are adequate for numbers and some letters, but more detail is needed to unambiguously represent the ISO basic Latin alphabet. A slightly different version is the sixteen-segment tube, which is more legible when displaying letters or other symbols. A decimal point or comma may appear as a supplementary field, and the comma (used in many regions to mark every three-digit grouping or as a decimal point) is often composed of a decimal point and a stroke that tapers to the left and right immediately below it. Alphanumeric electronic displays can use LED, LCD, or vacuum fluorescent display devices. LED variants are usually manufactured in single or double character packages, allowing the system designer to choose the number of characters to suit the application. A marquee machine is often used to convert the 7-bit ASCII code into 14 bits to indicate the on or off of the 14 segments.
