Do you know how to buy LCD monitors? Popular science knowledge for everyone

How to choose a monitor? Whether to consider from the appearance, from the consideration of cost performance, or from the pursuit of the ultimate performance of the product, many consumers may not have a special understanding of this. Let's take a look at the method of purchasing LCD monitors.

1. Screen size

When we buy LCD monitors, the first consideration is the size of "face". The screen size is calculated based on the diagonal of the screen, usually in inches (inch) as the unit, which refers to the length of the diagonal of the screen. The choice of screen size is highly subjective. Some people like large screens, and some people like small screens. You can choose according to your budget and preferences.

2. Resolution

The resolution is mostly used for the clarity of the image. The higher the resolution, the better the image quality and the more details it can show. Generally speaking, the higher the resolution of the display, the better. Nowadays, even cheap displays have a resolution of at least 1920 × 1080. This standard format is called "1080p". This format is widely used in most standard LCD TVs, mobile phones and tablets, and a variety of other technologies. In addition to 1080p, you can also choose a larger resolution, but the price is also more expensive. So within the budget, try to choose a monitor with a larger resolution.

3. Interface type

In the past ten years of development, the interface of the display device has undergone tremendous changes! We used to use the blue VGA interface more often, and then the white DVI interface appeared. When we encounter different interfaces, we have to buy and switch The connector is transferred. Later, there were interfaces such as HDMI, and now there are DP and USB Type-C interfaces. For the monitors we use every day, HDMI occupies an absolute dominant position. It is mature and stable, and can also meet daily needs. However, when it is applied to monitor hardware color calibration, it is not recommended to use the HDMI interface. Its RGB range will be missing. The DP interface is a better choice for color calibration. The practicability of the other interfaces is also very high, and some relatively "high-cold" interfaces are currently being popularized. Therefore, choosing according to needs is the most fundamental solution.

4. Refresh rate

The refresh rate refers to the number of frames that the monitor can display per second, and the unit is hertz (Hz). The most common refresh rates are 60Hz and 144Hz. In addition, there are 50, 75, 85, 165, 200, and 240Hz. In video games, the stronger the computer performance and the higher the frame rate (fps), the smoother the game screen. The display refresh rate must be greater than or equal to the game frame rate to fully play the full performance. In general, the refresh rate of the display is of course the higher the better. However, for most people, it is difficult to notice the difference between 60, 144 and 240Hz. Ordinary users only need a 60Hz display.

5. no flicker

The display will flicker under any background below the maximum brightness. Due to the limit of the human eye's perception of flicker, it is difficult for users to detect such flicker, but this problem cannot be ignored. Although our eyesight cannot detect the flicker, the muscles of the human eye are constantly contracting and opening. This will cause the intraocular pressure to rise over time, and the eyes will experience soreness, numbness, swelling and pain for a long time. It will also cause certain damage to eyesight.

How to identify the non-flicker screen? After purchasing the display, use the camera or mobile phone to take a picture of the display, no need to take a picture, just watch the image taken by the camera or mobile phone. When the display with splash screen is in low brightness, wavy stripes can be seen on the screen, and the display without splash screen will not appear.

6. Low blue light mode

Low-Blue Light mode (Low-Blue Light), a new feature that became popular around 2016, has now become a standard feature of the display. According to media reports, blue light has long been fascinating. After all, its damage to the eyes has been verified by medical examples. The low blue light mode usually takes the form of a slider or a series of presets to gradually reduce the blue light in the image. After turning on this function, it will have a certain impact on the color rendering of the overall picture, but it is really necessary to protect the eyes.

7. Response time

Response time is also called standard response time, which refers to the time it takes to turn off the pixel, then turn on and off the pixel (or from black to white and back to black). The response time of the display is divided into standard response time and gray-scale response time. If the response time is too long, "blur" and "ghosting" will appear when playing games and watching movies. When consumers buy, the general experience is that the shorter the response time, the better. In addition, it should be noted that the response time is divided into two parts: Tr (rising time) and Tf (falling time). From black to white to rising, white to black is called falling. The response time is the sum of these two values. . However, some manufacturers only mark one of these two values to mislead consumers. Therefore, you must understand clearly when purchasing.

8. Curved display

The display is divided into ordinary flat display and curved display. In theory, curved screens provide a wider viewing angle and an "immersive" experience. The smaller the radius of curvature, the greater the curvature. In order to get the benefits of curved surfaces, you need a large 100-inch screen and you need to sit very close, which may give you more "movie" experience. But you may not want such a large TV or computer monitor, and you may not want to sit so close. If your monitor is not that big, curved monitors are not very useful.

9. Liquid crystal is a substance between liquid and crystal and cannot emit light by itself, so the brightness of the backlight determines its brightness. Generally speaking, the higher the brightness of the liquid crystal display, the more vivid the color displayed, and the better the display effect; if the brightness is too low, the displayed color will be darker, and you will feel tired after watching it for a long time. Contrast is the ratio of brightness, which refers to the brightness under a white screen divided by the brightness under a black screen in a dark room. Therefore, the brighter the white and the darker the black, the higher the contrast, the clearer and brighter the displayed picture, and the stronger the sense of color hierarchy. For consumers who often use computers to play games or do graphics processing, they should choose LCD monitors with higher contrast. For users who are fond of DVD blockbusters, a high-brightness/high-contrast LCD is the most suitable choice. Of course, it is not the brightness. The higher the contrast, the better. Watching a high-brightness LCD screen for a long time makes the eyes tired easily.

10. Dead pixels

"Bad pixels" are physical pixels that cannot be repaired on the LCD panel, which are divided into bright spots and dark spots. Bright spots refer to pixels that still emit light when the screen displays black, and dark spots refer to pixels that do not display color. Since their existence will affect the display effect of the screen, the fewer dead pixels, the better. When consumers choose LCD monitors, do not choose products with more than three dead pixels. How to test the dead pixels of the display? Users can use the display tester (Nokia Monitor Test) software to test. In addition to "dark spots" and "bright spots", there are also "color spots" that always display a single color.

11. Viewing angle

The light of the liquid crystal display is emitted forward through the liquid crystal at a close to vertical angle. Therefore, when we observe the screen from other angles, it will not be as clear as the CRT display, but will see obvious colors. distortion. This is caused by the size of the viewing angle. The viewing angle is divided into horizontal viewing angle and vertical viewing angle. When choosing a liquid crystal display, you should try to choose a product with a large viewing angle. At present, the viewing angle of liquid crystal displays is basically above 140 degrees, which can meet the needs of ordinary users. Regardless of the value of the viewing angle, whether it is convenient for your own use is fundamental, and it is best to choose according to your daily use habits.

12. After-sales service

The warranty period of the monitor is set by the manufacturer itself, generally there is a full free warranty service of 1-3 years. Therefore, consumers should understand the detailed warranty period to avoid product problems that affect consumers' use. Therefore, consumers should try their best to choose products with a long warranty period.
